Hello and welcome to our official Raise The Roof DJ’s website. My name is Rick and I go by the
name DJ Klasick because I love playing all the “classic” songs that everyone knows and can
show off their fancy dance moves. Growing up I always loved music and was that kid at your
party trying to control the sounds coming out of the speaker. As a child and young adult, I was
exposed to all genres of music from Motown, Old School, Classic Rock, Oldies, Pop, R&B, Hip
Hop and so much more. If you have a few minutes, sit back and enjoy the tale of how we
became Raise The Roof DJ’s.
It all started back in the spring of 2004 when my cousin graduated from high school and was off
to college. My aunt Rosa had called me and asked if I wanted to come and play music at her
graduation party. Rosa originally called a company to DJ for her, but my cousin wanted a
high-end photography camera and not a DJ. So my aunt put her money towards the camera
and proceed to call me for the music. Now at this time I had no experience as a DJ and did not
have any DJ equipment. I was just a guy with a lot of music. There are no music streaming
services, and the first iPhone won't be released for another 3 years in 2007. When my aunt
called and asked me to provide music I was a little hesitant because I had no idea what I was
doing, but after a few days of thinking it over I said, Yes.
So now the pressure is on to try and provide the soundtrack to my cousin's graduation party. I
did some research and worked up to save a little money and I mean little money, to buy some
speakers and a microphone. I would stay up late playing music, mixing songs, and trying to
figure out what all the buttons and knobs do. I would come home from work and start to mix
songs again. This went on for a few weeks until finally, the day of the graduation party had
arrived. Although this was going to be mostly family and friends, I was still very nervous
I unloaded what little equipment I had, managed to set up, and did a small sound check and the
evening was off to a great start. I just remember the sun was going down people were
conversating and introducing themselves, So I played some low background music that
everyone could enjoy. As the night progressed the beats increased and to my surprise people
were actually dancing. I even received a few compliments on my song selections.
I admit the song transitions and techniques were probably not the best. I saw all the happy
faces and the memories people created that night. That feeling was one of the greatest
sensations. I decided from that day I would continue to work on becoming a better DJ.
As the years have progressed we faced ups and downs but propelled forward and have been
blessed to be able to provide DJ services for some amazing clients and have been to some very
beautiful homes and venues all over Southern California. We have grown to a team of DJs and
Photo Booth associates then are now staffed and ready to help you “Raise The Roof” at your
next event!
